On Tuesday, Hall Of Famer Kaname "Wally" Yonamine turns 83. Yonamine, a former San Francisco 49er and Seal, was one of the first Nisei (American born Japanese) players to play in Japan after the war and the first American born super-star. He also managed the Dragons for a number of years in the mid-1970's. He was the first American born manager in Japan and the first to lead a team to the Japan Series, falling in 6 six games to Lotte in 1974.
Rob Fitts has a biography of Yonamine coming out later this year. There's information on the book as well as lots of details about the man (as well as pictures and scans of cards) here.
