Fake Ohtani Card

I've been resisting pointing this out because (1) I shouldn't draw attention to it and (2) it's not like it's not obvious but there's a Shohei Ohtani card being sold on Ebay that depicts him as a high school student that is not a legitimate card issue - this is someone's home brew card.  It has a "copyright date" of 2012 but I never saw it until recently.

At least the guy who put this together found an original photo of Ohtani to use - his fake Kenta Maeda card last year reused the photo from his rookie card in the 2007 BBM 1st Version set.

If I remember correctly - this guys been at it a while. I think he did the same thing with Kris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber when they were hot prospects.

Yeah, he's got quite a list. I don't have a big problem with these kind of cards unless people think they are legitimate issues.

Thanks for pointing it out.

The sad thing is I still see a lot of Broder issues from the junk wax era pop up at card shows (or did five years ago when I was living in the States). And they've made it here to Japan too; I find them in card shops or show boxes in Japan a couple times a year.

As much as I I dislike unauthorized cards on eBay, I must admit I have some interest in a few of the sets issued in the past and even some made in the past few years. The problem is the seller is trying to capitalize on ignorant people and selling their cards for $6-10 each when I would maybe pay that for a full set at best.

I'm glad you pointed this out!

Its worth adding that in addition to being unlicensed this has to be one of the ugliest card designs ever. Why have most of the card front consist of a generic gold background with the guy's photo only taking up a teeny bit?

Some of the older unlicensed sets actually had decent, simple designs with nice photos. This one is just plain awful.

I got a card from 2012 high school
I ordered from Amazon but received it from eBay
Do we trust eBay?

Well, define "trust". I don't expect Ebay to verify whether or not a card is a legitimate card or not but if you feel the seller cheated you somehow you can make a complaint.

If it looks like the above card, it’s fake. And as far as I know there are NO legitimate high school cards in Japan.

And by the way, people are wasting TONS of money on this stupid card now. I need to post about it too.
