Card Of The Week August 1

You'll have to forgive them if the Dominican Republic Olympic Baseball team is feeling snake-bit.

In the opening game of the baseball competition last week, the Dominicans had a 3-1 lead on Samurai Japan going into the bottom of the ninth.  Japan scored three times, walking it off on a game winning single from Hayato Sakamoto for a 4-3 win.

Fast forward to today's game against Korea.  The Dominican Republic again tool a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth only to again give up three runs to lose the game 4-3.  The game winning hit today was from Kim Hyun-soo who knocked in Lee Jung-hoo from third with a single that right fielder Julio Rodriguez barely missed catching.

There have been eight Olympic baseball games so far and three have ended on walk-offs  Besides these two games, Korea beat Israel on a bases loaded hit by pitch on Thursday.

The DR are still alive.  Tuesday evening they will play the loser of tomorrow's rematch between Israel and Korea.  The loser of Tuesday's game will be eliminated and at that point we'll know the four teams that will be playing for medals - just not which medals they will be playing for yet.

I thought I'd share cards of the two players who got the game winning hits against the Dominicans:

2019 SCC KBO Collection 2 #SCCR2-19/156 All Star
