The Fukuoka Softbank Hawks wrapped up their second straight Nippon Series Championship on Thursday, defeating the Tokyo Yakult Swallows four games to one. This is the first time that an NPB team has won back-to-back Championships since the Lions won three in a row from 1990-1992.
I thought I'd continue the tradition I started
last year and highlight the individual award winners that BBM used to commemorate in their annual Nippon Series set (that was issued from 1991-2012).

Series MVP Dae-Ho Lee (2014 Bandai Owners League #037) |
|
"Fighting Spirit" Tetsuto Yamada (2011 BBM 1st Version #265) |
|
Outstanding Player Kenji Akashi (2007 BBM Hawks #H064) |
|
Outstanding Player Rick Van Den Hurk (2015 BBM Hawks #H22) |
|
Outstanding Player Shota Takeda (2014 BBM Young Hawks - Futures And Legends #06) |
Lee was the first foreign player to be named Nippon Series MVP since Orix's Troy Neel in 1996. Yamada homered three times in Game Three which was a Series record. Takeda was named an Outstanding Player in last year's Series as well.
In addition, the Korean Series wrapped up yesterday
with the third place Doosan Bears defeating the first place Samsung Lions four games to one. Doosan DH Soo-Bin Jung was named MVP of the Series.
