2012 Calbee Series Three

This week, Calbee announced their third (and I assume final) series for 2012.  Like Series Two, there will be 72 "regular" player cards in the set (six per team), numbered 146 to 217 to follow the first two series.  There will be three subsets - two of which continue subsets that have been present in the first two series.  The All Star (AS) subset features 22 cards for the players who were elected by the fans to the All Star rosters (except Terrmel Sledge).  Calbee continues it's celebration of its 40th Anniversary by continuing the Memorial (M) subset - this time there are 12 cards showing reprints of earlier cards for active players (1 from each team).  The remaining subset is the four checklist cards (C) showing various highlights from the season, including Senichi Hoshino's 1000 managerial win and Kenta Maeda's no-hitter.  There's also a 24 card Star (S) insert set featuring two players from each team.  This insert set continues the set started in the first two series - so there's a total of 72 Star cards in all (six per team).

As usual, the checklist is available on line.

The checklists at SCF have been updated. I really wish they would include the parallels in their online checklists. I know there is a signature variation in there, probably of both the base cards and the Star cards.

Personally, I've only seen the signature variations on the insert (Star) cards, never on the base cards.

You are correct, I'm confusing BBM's signature parallel base cards with Calbee's Star Cards. Either way, I can't find reliable information on which variations exist without having to scour the online shops and auction sites, card by card. Not a fun way to compile a checklist.

Checking back through my Tuffy Rhodes collection, I do have a couple gold signature base cards from 1999 and 2001, but none more recent.

Yeah, you're right, I've got a couple of those from 2000. According to Engel, Calbee did a signature parallel in 1999 and 2000. Instead of being in packs, they were a mail-in redemption for some sort of winner card.
