Card Of The Week June 27
Last weekend, I went to a baby shower for some friends of ours who are about to have a baby (well, I guess that's kind of obvious, huh?) Anyway, I was surprised to see that one of the co-workers of my friends who was there was wearing a Chiba Lotte Marines t-shirt. So, of course, I had to ask him about it. Turns out, a friend of his gave him the shirt and he really didn't know anything about the team. (And everyone else looked at the shirt and at first glance thought it said "Mariners", not "Marines").
Poor guy - he threw the shirt on that morning, not realizing he was going to be quizzed by a crazy Japanese baseball fan. I suspect he'll think twice about wearing it in public again.

Just wondering if this cards can be purchased anywhere in the US. Send me an email at paw75@comcast.net to let me know.
Heh. A couple of years ago when I still lived in Seattle I saw a dude walking down the street wearing a Yomiuri Giants hat, so I was like "Why the hell are you a Giants fan?" and he's like "Nono, this is the TOKYO GIANTS" and I'm like "Yes, I know. Why the hell are you a Yomiuri Giants fan?" and he again dodged the question, and I pressed more, like "...so if you're a Giants fan, which player do you like? What did you think about the Ogasawara signing?" and some more stuff and it came out that this guy knew absolutely nothing about the team, he basically got a friend to bring him back a hat from Tokyo, and probably never expected an actual NPB fan to accost him on the street and ask him about it.
Another time I saw a guy at Safeco wearing a Hanshin Tigers Yano #39 t-shirt and I'm like "now that's odd, why Yano?" and he said "I have no clue who Yano is, I bought this shirt at Kansai airport because I wanted a Tigers shirt, I never even saw a game in Japan." At least he was honest...
I think the only time I ever saw someone wearing NPB stuff in the US and asked them about it and they actually knew what the hell they were talking about was the first time I accidentally met Edwin (the guy who writes the crazy Goroshigeno Koshien blog).
