Go Woo-suk Of The San Diego Padres

Former LG Twins closer Go Woo-suk has signed a two year deal with the San Diego Padres.  Go was the first round pick of the Twins in the 2017 KBO draft out of Chungam High School in Seoul and made his debut in April of that year.  He became the team's closer in 2019 and at 20 years of age became the youngest player in KBO history to record 30 saves (he finished the season with 35).  He led the KBO in saves in 2022 with 42.

He pitched for the Korean National Team in the 2019 Premier 12, the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and the 2023 World Baseball Classic.  He is the brother-in-law of Lee Jung-hoo who just signed with the Giants.

While doing the research for this post, I came across a cool story that I had not heard of before.  Lee Dae-ho, famed slugger of the Lotte Giants (along with the Buffaloes, Hawks and Mariners), had originally been signed as a pitcher but had never made a pitching appearance with Lotte until his retirement game at the end of the 2022 season.  He faced one batter - Go, who was making his first plate appearance in his KBO career.  Go grounded out.

Go has had a number of Korean baseball cards.  His first card appears to be from the 2018 SCC KBO Collection set (#SCCR-01/123).  The Trading Card Database has 35 cards listed for him although that includes parallels, autograph and memorabilia cards.  His total number of base set cards is around 16 or so.  Here's the eight cards that I have - I have no KBO cards from the past two seasons so my cards stop in 2021):
