Getting back to the cards Ryan sent me....
Epoch issued their annual "Pacific League Rookies" set back in July. This is a box set containing 38 cards - the 35 card base set, two "foil signature" parallel cards and an authentic autograph card. As usual I just got the base set.
The contents of this set are very well described by the name - it contains cards for all the 2021 rookies on the six Pacific League teams. In this case "rookie" equals "2020 draft pick" as opposed to the players who were drafted earlier but hadn't played at the ichi-gun level enough to lose their rookie status (i.e. Roki Sasaki or Hiroya Miyagi). As I've mentioned in the past, this set is essentially half of BBM's Rookie Edition set - it's just that the player photos show them actually playing baseball rather than doing guts poses at the podium when the teams introduce their draft classes. Oh, and the ikusei players are not included so it's a little less than half of the Rookie Edition set.
The cards themselves are pretty nice. They've got a kind of high end feel and they're a bit thicker than regular cards. I continue to not be impressed with the photo selection - pretty much all the usual "pitchers pitching, batters batting and catchers catching" poses with only a handful of exceptions. Here's some sample cards:
#18 |
#08 |
#24 |
#34 |
#14 |
#03 |
It's a nice little set but it seems kind of redundant to me. I think this may be the last edition of this set I pick up.
As always, you can see all the cards over at Jambalaya.
