Today, May 17th, is the 72nd birthday of former Chicago White Sox outfielder Carlos May. May is well known among baseball fans for having worn uniform number 17 when he was with the White Sox. When the Chisox uniforms included the player's last name on the back, it meant that he wore his birthday (May 17) on his back.
May actually spent the last four years of his career in Japan playing for the Nankai Hawks. He wore 17 for them as well and Nankai had the names on the back of their uniforms at the time so he wore his birthday there as well. I only know of two Japanese cards for him - a 1981 Takara Hawks cards (#17 of course) and this 1979 TCMA card (#68):
In the unlikely chance he sees this post, Happy Birthday, Mr. May!
